Thank you for viewing this item. This is a set of three Ten'gen-saku Aizu-nuri (lacquerware) o-suimono-wan (soup bowls). The beautiful jet-black lacquer, both inside and out, is accented by gold arabesque patterns, giving the pieces a striking presence. The sparingly placed red berries create a subdued impression, adding to the refined Japanese aesthetic. Two of the bowls have been used previously, while the third bowl in this set is new and unused. However, due to the long storage period, the outer box shows some corresponding dirt and damage. Although the bowls themselves appear to be in good condition for use, there are areas on both the bowls and lids where the gold powder has come off, resembling autumn leaves (see photos 5-9). There are also some slight raised areas in the lacquer (photo 10). In addition, there is a slightly unique smell, possibly due to age or the lacquer itself.
