[What is Kimekomi Ningyo...] Grooves are carved into a paulownia-pulp (toso) base, and the edges of the fabric are pushed into the grooves with a tool like an awl, creating the appearance of clothing. Around 1740, a craftsman who made offering boxes for Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto created Kimekomi Ningyo, a traditional doll with a history of nearly 300 years.
