Both light up as shown in the photos. Perfect for camping or as emergency preparedness items. There are some scratches from transportation, but I hardly remember actually using them. Neither has any signs of battery leakage, and the battery compartments are clean. The smaller one has some rust at the base of the top handle due to storage.
