The reverse side is also engraved with the image of St. Augustine of Hippo, St. Monica's eldest son.✧*。 † St. Monica † Monica was born in Tagaste, North Africa, and raised by Christian parents. She married a Roman official named Patricius and became the mother of three children (her eldest son was St. Augustine). Her pagan husband was violent and dissolute, and Monica sought solace in alcohol, but she overcame her alcoholism, and is also the patron saint of those suffering from alcoholism. Through Monica's patience and prayers, her husband converted the year before his death, and Monica preceded him in death at the age of 40. She was heartbroken by her son Augustine's wayward life. In an attempt to convert Augustine, who was obsessed with non-Christian philosophy and living a dissolute life, she accompanied him to Italy in 383, and became a disciple of Bishop Ambrose in Milan. With his help, she continued to pray for her son's conversion, and Monica's fervent prayers were answered, and Augustine gradually turned his heart to Christianity, and after his conversion in 386, he was baptized. Before she died, Monica left her son with the words, "The only reason I wanted to live a little longer was because I wanted to see you as a Catholic before I died. God has given me this grace.
