This is an old Wajima-nuri lacquerware bowl. It features a beautiful design of a peony and butterfly in exquisite chinkin (gold inlay) on a base of vibrant, aged vermilion lacquer with gold rims. The peony and butterfly motif is a classic, but the chinkin work, which includes the fence, is incredibly detailed and delicate, of high quality. The bowl is made of sturdy, thin wood. The shape of the bowl, resembling tiered rice cakes, is also a characteristic of a skilled craftsman. There are only minor scratches, and overall, it is in good condition.
