I received this as a gift when my child was born, but it was hot at the time, so I wore something else. It's a new, unused item that has been stored away. I believe the kimono is genuine silk, with the basting threads still attached, and I think it's in beautiful condition, although I haven't examined it in detail. Please be aware of the fine threads characteristic of genuine silk. It comes with a襦袢 (undergarment), which I believe is made of polyester. It has a unique design with beautiful silver accents, so how about it if you don't want to wear something that everyone else has??
