These items are for babies and infants. The cloth book can be attached to a stroller, etc. There doesn't appear to be any noticeable staining inside, but there is some tearing on the corners of the picture book, and the attached dog (with a bell) on the cloth book, as well as the tags, show signs of wear and tear, indicating use.
