I made a Japanese fabric petticoat using the lining from a disassembled awase kimono. Even when stored carefully, stains often occur, but I had some in beautiful condition, so I made this hoping it would be useful to someone. I couldn't determine the material, so I burned a scrap. There was no irritating odor, and after burning, it turned into black, brittle ash. It crumbled into powder when rubbed between my fingers, so I believe it's silk. After disassembling, I only sterilized it with a high-temperature iron. It's a lot of work to disassemble old clothing, but it's wonderful to be able to enjoy the feel of silk in everyday life. It's also a good point that you can enjoy the unique colors and combinations of Japan. I enjoy Western-style sewing specializing in straight stitching. I use old kimonos, such as tsumugi, meisen, and komon, as well as obi and furoshiki, for remaking. Please consider this if you understand that there may be remaining threads, small holes, stains from used items, distortions, double stitching, etc. *Please avoid washing as much as possible, and after wearing, hang it on a hanger and let it breathe.
