I have almost no knowledge of this type of item. I asked an old-timer, and they said it's a late Ming dynasty Chinese Southern-style Buddha. It's not definitive, but I also thought it might be around the Muromachi period if it were Japanese. There are some areas that look like red rust, but it's copper, not iron. Also, the core (nakago) clay used during molding was about to break off, so it has been secured with resin. Removing the core clay would be risky considering its condition. There are many cracks and areas where the paint is peeling, but I, who usually don't handle Buddhist statues, found myself unconsciously reaching for it.
