This is a single-layered kimono made of traditional cotton fabric, "Kurume Kasuri," designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property. This piece is a work of the first generation Torao Moriyama, a holder of the Kurume Kasuri technique, an Important Intangible Cultural Property. The first generation Torao Moriyama was engaged in the production of Kurume Kasuri, which was his family business, and was certified as a Living National Treasure (Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property) for Kurume Kasuri in May 1959. He received numerous awards for preserving the technique, producing better products, and researching patterns that suited the times. The second generation Torao Moriyama, who inherited the mosquito kasuri technique from his grandfather Tomiyoshi and his father, the first generation Torao, was also certified as a Living National Treasure. Kurume Kasuri is a kasuri cotton fabric manufactured in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and is considered one of the three major kasuri fabrics in Japan, along with Iyo Kasuri and Bingo Kasuri. Among the weavers of Kurume Kasuri, only a handful weave by hand. This is a Kurume Kasuri work woven with great care, featuring a fine tortoise shell kasuri pattern on a deep indigo-dyed cotton fabric. There is also a remnant of the fabric with the artist's name and seal. Kurume Kasuri is generally made as a single-layered garment, and by changing the materials of the obi and juban, it can be worn warmly in the cold season and coolly in the hot season, making it enjoyable for three seasons: spring, autumn, and winter, except for midsummer. As a traditional cotton kimono that has been loved as a town wear, travel wear, and everyday wear, we hope you will enjoy it with your own Nagoya obi, Kyo-fukuro obi, or hanhaba obi (half-width obi) (^^) ● Color: Dark indigo ● Size: Wide collar (partially bat-wing collar), single-layered Length 160cm Sleeve length 63cm Sleeve length 43cm Front width 23.5cm Back width 28.5cm Seam allowance on the arm side about 2.5cm Seam allowance under the sleeve about 5cm Inside hem about 9cm *Please note that there may be slight errors due to amateur measurements. ● Material: Kimono fabric: Cotton Collar lining: Silk Seat backing: Cotton ● Condition: Part of the collar is sewn together, making it a bat-wing collar.
