MARRIED MAN by Natasha Caruana A collection of works by Natasha Caruana, a photographer based in London. From 2008 to 2009, the artist went on 80 dates with married men. Each time, she took one or two photos with a disposable camera. These photos depict the remnants of meals in cafes, dirty coffee cups, and the lids of lunch boxes, far removed from the glamorous and exciting image of "affairs." After finding a dating site for affairs, the artist became interested in the impact of the internet on modern relationships. Over 18 months, she dated over 50 married men, sometimes going on three or four dates a day. The men in this book are represented by black silhouettes disappearing behind doors, the sleeves of tattered jackets, or the knees of suits seen behind wine coolers. Numerous hands of various ages are captured signing receipts, holding wet umbrellas, dangling keys, fidgeting with tableware, and gently holding the artist's hand. The artist began this project as a catharsis, but it gradually became a performance. The men deceived their wives by going on dates, and their lies echoed in Caruana's fiction. Each time she immersed herself in the persona of a date with an adulterer, Caruana played a character who facilitated their fantasies, and the table between them became a stage. What surprised her was that the men often talked about their wives for a long time. They spoke of their loneliness and how they felt like spare parts in their families. In the end, all these men wanted was a sympathetic ear.
