A piece from the vault. Authentic Takaoka Lacquerware, Floral Motif, Yusuke-nuri Small Box, Vintage Item This is a very rare item, and a highly sought-after, hard-to-find piece. Works by Yusuke Ishii are also displayed in the Takaoka City Museum, and similar items are featured on the Cultural Heritage Online. Takaoka Lacquerware "Yusuke-nuri" Created in the late Edo period by "Yusuke Ishii," it features a Tang-style aesthetic. This technique became synonymous with Takaoka Lacquerware, with works delicately and elegantly finished using various methods on a matte finish of ancient vermilion and urushi colors. Yusuke Ishii (1851-1925) was born in Takaoka Teppomachi in the 4th year of Kaei as the second son of Yusuke I (1810-86), the first generation of Yusuke-nuri. He assisted his father and elder brother, the second-generation Yusuke, in the development of "Yusuke-nuri." He became independent and used the name "Yusuke," leaving behind his works.
