This is a sturdy wooden shio-ke (salt container). It likely originally had a lid, and I imagine it was used to hold seasonings or similar items. To us, the impoverished tea ceremony enthusiasts, it naturally looks like a shio-ke-shaped guinomi (sake cup). It doesn't leak and is comfortable to drink from.
