This is a sometsuke (blue and white) plate I purchased at an antique market about 10 years ago. I liked the elegant craftsmanship and brought it home with me. The round window in the center features a typical landscape scene. A sailing ship and houses. Perhaps a fisherman's house? What's elegant is the area around the round window. Stylized treasure ships and waves. Next to it, perhaps stylized peonies? The varying shades of blue enhance the quality. The slightly petal-shaped rim also contributes. There is one older "nyu" (crack). There is one newer chip with a crack extending from it. The plate is well-fired, so the cracks are unlikely to spread further. The new chip has a slight catch. It might be good to smooth it with sandpaper or use kintsugi (gold repair). Size: Width: 17.5 cm Height: 2.5 cm
