I'm not certain, but I believe this is a tea ceremony utensil, a Sendai specialty, ume-ki zaiku (buried wood craft) incense container. My family used to be tea ceremony instructors, and I brought this back during a cleanup of my family home. There is no box. I will pass this on to someone who practices the tea ceremony and will cherish it. Thank you.
