This is a genuine Oshima Tsumugi ensemble, a dark, grayish-blue color when viewed from a distance, featuring a striped pattern (chirashi). This Oshima exhibits a pattern reminiscent of the well-known "井形" (well-shaped) kasuri found in hand-woven, single-warp Oshima Tsumugi, but it is a chirashi striped Oshima. Chirashi Oshima can be either machine-woven or hand-woven, and it's difficult to tell the difference. Looking at the finished ensemble, it gives the impression of a hand-woven striped Oshima, with the warmth of a craftsman's handiwork, although the truth is unknown. Striped Oshima is basically woven using only the ground threads (solid-colored dyed threads), and the "kasuri-shime" process of creating kasuri threads is not used. The striped pattern is its characteristic, woven using alternating dyed threads and plain threads. (Photos 16 and 17) Oshima kimonos include hand-woven, machine-woven, kasuri, and yokoso (patterns created with weft threads), each woven using different techniques, allowing you to enjoy their respective characteristics. Showa-era to present-day genuine Oshima Tsumugi is woven using only hon-kinu threads (genuine silk threads), not the tsumugi threads typically associated with tsumugi. This gives it a unique luster, and you can enjoy the sound of the fabric rustling. The kimono lining uses Kanekin (cotton) in a black-red color. The haori lining is a silk mon-isho fabric with the character "寿" (longevity) woven into it. The warp threads are floated to create a luster, with a moss green base and gold-brown accents.
