This is a katakuchi (one-sided spout) piece by Kei Shimaoka, the grandson of Living National Treasure Tatsuzo Shimaoka. It features a rounded body with a spout that extends diagonally. The geometric patterns applied throughout evoke the Shimaoka family lineage, yet also convey a certain softness and quiet presence. With its simple, warm glaze and easy-to-handle size, it can be used not only as a sake vessel, but also for purposes reminiscent of "karakara" (a vessel for pouring sake) seen in Okinawa.
