It is said that the origin and roots are the same as Enmaten, one of the Twelve Devas, the Buddhist guardians. There is no documentation available on Jomeiken Suzuki Yoshimitsu, so details are unknown. The three-dimensional and powerful depiction of the tongue extraction is a truly magnificent work. On the reverse, something like Enma's ledger and weapons are expressed in Sukidashi-bori (sunken relief carving). The period is believed to be from the Meiji to Taisho eras.
