Paulownia oil soot ink produces a strong black color. The ink color is a deep, rich black. In medium to light shades, it ranges from purplish-black to black-brown. It's good for using with Chinese characters (kanji) in deep to medium shades, and for utilizing the blurring effect in kana (Japanese syllabary) in deep to medium shades. This ink is suitable for deep shades of kanji and kana, but it's also good for creating gradations in paintings.
