Please understand. ★Features of the Shrine★ One of the characteristics of the Shinjuku Kumano Shrine is the large number of cultural assets in Shinjuku. ① A water basin engraved with a text by Ota Nanpo, a famous kyoka poet of the late Edo period. ② A "Shikisanban Dedication Plaque" depicting the Kabuki play "Shikisanban" performed at the Ichimura-za, one of the Edo Sanza (three major Kabuki theaters). ③ A "Kumano Sanzan Ema" (votive picture tablet) depicting the Kumano Sanzan (three major shrines of Kumano) dedicated on the right side of the main hall. ④ A "Seven Actors Picture Ema" depicting seven popular young Kabuki actors of the time and the animals of the Chinese zodiac. This image is of the "Yatagarasu Mamori" amulet, which is given at the Shinjuku Kumano Shrine. It is said to bring good luck, health, and traffic safety. "Yatagarasu" is a three-legged crow that appears in Japanese mythology and is a messenger of the gods that leads to victory and good fortune. It became a hot topic when the Japan women's national football team (Nadeshiko Japan) visited the shrine to pray for victory in the 2011 Women's World Cup and purchased this amulet.
