In 1969 (Showa 44), he apprenticed under his father, Yoshiyoshi Oikawa, an outstanding craftsman of Iwate Prefecture, and succeeded the family business of Nanbu iron kettle manufacturing, dedicating himself to iron kettle production. As the chairman of the Iron Kettle Subcommittee, he excels in the lightweighting of Nanbu iron kettles, rust prevention treatment methods, and coloring techniques. He has strived to improve the quality of Nanbu iron kettles and has contributed to the spread of iron kettles in China. Since 2012 (Heisei 24), he has been active as an instructor for the Nanbu Iron Kettle Traditional Craft Succession Project, training two successors.
