The youth novel "The Lines That Draw Me," by Yasuhiro Tomigami, which is based on the world of ink wash painting, has been made into a movie starring Ryusei Yokohama and directed by Norihiro Koizumi of "Chihayafuru." Shosuke Aoyama, a university student, has a fateful encounter with ink wash painting at the site of a painting exhibition where he works part-time. Ink wash paintings, expressed only in black and white, spread vividly before Shosuke, and his world, which had been deeply saddened by the accidental loss of his family, is transformed. Shosuke, who is invited by the master Kozan Shinoda to study ink wash painting, is fascinated while being bewildered by the new world. Kaya Kiyohara of "The North Woods" plays Chie Shinoda, Kozan Shinoda's granddaughter and Shosuke's rival; Kanta Hosoda of "Machida-kun no Sekai" plays Shosuke's best friend, Furumae; and Yumi Kawai of "Summer Film ni Notte" plays Kawagishi, who, inspired by Shosuke, starts an ink wash painting circle with Furumae.
