My great-grandmother was a leading figure in the Karyu Japanese dance, and she had a deep relationship with geishas. She was surrounded by people who enjoyed various social activities, including playing Hanafuda (Japanese playing cards). I wrote Showa era, but it might be from before that; I'm not sure about that. I found this while cleaning up my parents' house. As you can see in the image, it's a set of items needed for Hanafuda: 60 Hanafuda cards, 48 reading cards, and other items like Daruma pieces. The white and black circular pieces appear to be made of shells. There are six baskets, and I think they were probably used to keep score, but I'm not sure if all the cards are there or if all the other items are complete. This is rarely offered for sale, so I think it would be valuable for collectors of traditional Japanese antiques or Hanafuda collectors.
