This is a kimono made from Honba Ushikubi Tsumugi, designated as an Intangible Cultural Property of Ishikawa Prefecture and one of the three major tsumugi fabrics in Japan. This particular kimono is made with pre-dyed Ushikubi Tsumugi. Ushikubi Tsumugi, produced in Hakusan Village, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a fabric with very limited production, ranking among the three major tsumugi fabrics in Japan alongside Oshima Tsumugi and Yuki Tsumugi. There are two dyeing methods for Ushikubi Tsumugi: pre-dyeing and post-dyeing. This is a pre-dyed kimono, which is less common and is commonly called "Ori-Ushi" (woven Ushikubi). The indigo dyeing of Ushikubi Tsumugi uses a traditional technique very similar to "Shoai Hizome," an ancient dyeing method from the Nara and Heian periods. This piece is woven with the "Katsuo-jima" pattern, a representative traditional pattern of Ushikubi Tsumugi. Among the pre-dyed striped patterns of Ushikubi Tsumugi, the "Katsuo-jima" is particularly striking. The Katsuo-jima pattern features stripes that change from dark to light, resembling the color gradation of a skipjack tuna's body, which fades from its back to its belly. The unique knots of the tama-mayu (double cocoons) and the soft yarn that contains a lot of air create a fabric that is both rustic and possesses luster and delicate details. In Hakusan, the birthplace of Ushikubi, many indigo-dyed kimonos have been preserved since ancient times. While most items on the market are those with patterns expressed through "post-dyeing," you don't often see "pre-dyed" items. We hope you will enjoy coordinating it with various obi (sashes) (^^) ●Size: Wide collar, lined Length 166cm Sleeve-to-sleeve length 66.5cm Sleeve length 49cm Front width 23.5cm Back width 28.5cm Seam allowance for sleeve-to-sleeve length: approx. 3cm on one side Hem allowance: approx. 9cm *Please note that there may be slight variations due to amateur measurements. ●Material: Both the kimono fabric, lining, and hagari (underskirt) are silk. ●Condition: This kimono was tailored in 2018. *The certificate of authenticity also uses the current seal, which has been in use since March 1, 2014.
