Synopsis Set in post-war France, this human drama depicts a music teacher who, after being assigned to a boarding school for troubled children, connects with them through chorus. Based on the 1944 French film "La Cage aux Rossignols," this is the directorial and screenwriting debut for Christophe Barratier. 1949, a rural town in France. Mathieu, an unemployed music teacher, is assigned to "Fond de l'Étang," a boarding school for orphans and troubled children. The school is filled with children whose hearts have been hardened by loneliness, and a principal who repeatedly resorts to corporal punishment, creating a bleak atmosphere throughout the school. Mathieu decides to form a choir to help the children regain their original innocence and teach them the joy of singing. One day, Mathieu discovers that the school's most troubled student, Pierre, possesses a "miraculous singing voice." Gérard Jugnot, known for "Monsieur Batignole," plays Mathieu.
