This is a Yamabudo (wild vine) basket bag made from extremely fine strands of Yamabudo from the Tohoku region, purchased 16 years ago from a Yamabudo basket shop online. I believe I purchased it for 200,000 yen. This bag is made from wild vine collected in the Tohoku region of Japan. Excluding the handles, the approximate dimensions are: Height: 24 cm Width: 31 cm Depth: 11 cm Inner circumference: 28 cm Weight: 322g It is woven with extremely fine strands (strand width approximately 3-4 mm). To date, it has been carefully stored in a non-woven fabric bag. It features a timeless, standard "ajiro-ami" (herringbone weave), and the rim of the opening is finished with a more intricate and beautiful "saikagari-ami" (decorative binding stitch). The opening is oval, and the base is rectangular. There is a gentle, rounded curve from the base to the opening. As seen in the second to last and 15th photos, you will notice two slightly larger holes on the bottom, arranged diagonally, for a total of four holes. These are likely holes from nails or similar tools used by the artisan to secure the basket during its creation. It has been used 2-3 times. When it was new, I would gently stroke it at home. I believe the color has changed slightly from its original state, resulting in a perfect hue. When it was new, I felt a bit self-conscious about taking it out immediately, as it looked too new. However, this bag now has a matured charm that allows it to blend in nicely when taken out, making it more user-friendly, in my opinion.
