This is a compass (magnetic needle). I purchased it at an antique market. A small bird, possibly a sparrow or a Japanese bush warbler, is carved on the back. The size is approximately 1 cm x 1 cm. There are no markings or engravings. The shop owner said it was 18k gold, but the details are unknown (I personally think it's different based on the color). I believe it was an ornament to be attached to a pocket watch chain, but the metal fitting is damaged (see photo 3). Therefore, it is listed as having some scratches and stains.
