Thank you for viewing! This is a reversible hanhaba obi (half-width belt) made from re-purposed silk kimono and haori (kimono jacket) fabric. I had it made the year before last, at the suggestion of a professional. It cost over 6,000 yen to take apart and wash the fabric, and almost 8,000 yen for the tailoring! I was shocked when it cost nearly 15,000 yen just to have it made. And yet, I never ended up wearing it, and it just sat in my chest of drawers. I decided to sell it since it's a waste. The length is 380 cm and the width is 17 cm. Separately, there is a 17 x 40 cm rectangular piece of fabric made from the same fabric combination. This is an idea to attach it like wings to the knot of the obi, which adds a little flair! It was the tailor's idea. Unlike polyester, silk obi are said to feel comfortable to wear because they hold firmly. How about it for your next outing?
