Rare 80s BSA 16th World Scout Jamboree Australia Contingent Patch This is a limited-edition patch for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) contingent to the 16th World Scout Jamboree, held at Cataract Scout Park in Australia from December 30, 1987, to January 7, 1988. This event was held as a national celebration of the 200th anniversary (Bicentennial) of Australia's founding, and it was a very important jamboree, being the first World Jamboree held in the "Southern Hemisphere." The bald eagle, powerfully depicted in the center, is the national bird of the United States of America and symbolizes the spirit of freedom and independence. The background of the Stars and Stripes and the golden fleur-de-lis (lily emblem) on the right represent the universal friendship of the Boy Scouts and the pride of the BSA. Because the event took place during the Australian summer, from December to January, the patch has the unusual year designation "87-88." This patch was actually issued to members dispatched from America at the time and was not a general sale item, making it a hard-to-find collector's item today. The back retains the heat-seal resin processing from the time, and it is in very good vintage condition for something nearly 40 years old. #80s #BoyScouts #WorldJamboree #BSA #BoyScoutsOfAmerica #Australia #VintagePatch #Military #Outdoor #VintageClothingCustomization #1987 #1988 #Rare #ScoutGoods #CollectorsItem
