This is a lidded vessel (persimmon red, square lidded vessel) by Kanjiro Kawai. Lidded vessels are rarer than items like teacups, and while iron-glazed lidded vessels are sometimes seen, persimmon red ones are quite rare. It can be used as a small container or a business card holder. There are no accompanying items such as a wooden box, and while I believe it to be genuine, it is currently unauthenticated. A similar piece is featured in the Kawakatsu Collection held by the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. The size is also about the same.
