This is a slideshow DVD photo album of the "Hakata Gion Yamakasa," which can be confidently stated, "There is no other naked festival of this scale known throughout Japan." The Hakata Gion Yamakasa, a summer festival of Kushida Shrine, which was designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the state in 1979 (Showa 54), is held from July 1st to 15th. During this time, 14 elaborately decorated kazari-yamakasa (decorative floats) are displayed throughout Fukuoka City. The festival begins with Oshioitori (purification ritual) at Hakozaki Beach on the 1st, where the designated town and officials of the seven nagare (districts) of the kaki-yamakasa (carrying floats) purify themselves. It then progresses through Nagare-kaki (district carrying) on the 10th, Asayama (morning float carrying) and Taryu-kaki (other district carrying) on the 11th, Oiyama-narashi (practice run) on the 12th, Shudan Yamamise (group float viewing) on the 13th, Nagare-kaki on the 14th, and culminates in the Kushida-iri (entering Kushida Shrine) time race and Oiyama (main race) on the 15th. This DVD photo album features a slideshow of 1,451 photos taken over the past 11 years, starting from 2019, displayed full screen and changing every 5 seconds. The total running time is 123 minutes.
