Nanbu Shushu Chiyokichi Kanazawa (pen name: Kakusai) was born in Morioka on September 15, 1882 (Meiji 15). From a young age, he became a disciple of the Arisaka family, who were also the official casters of the Morioka clan, and learned the techniques of ironware production. At the young age of 21, he won a bronze prize at the Morioka Product Exhibition, and subsequently received a silver prize at the Iwate Prefecture Product Exhibition, a first prize at the Japan-British Exhibition, and a commendation at the Tokyo Sculpture Competition. Therefore, in 1915 (Taisho 4), he was commended by the Mayor of Morioka, and in 1919 (Taisho 8) by the Governor of Iwate Prefecture, for his excellent skills that could serve as a model for other technicians and for his guidance of younger generations. During the war, he worked as a regular member of the "Nanbu Iron Kettle Technology Preservation Society," which was permitted to produce iron kettles to preserve traditional techniques, and strove to pass on traditional techniques. Despite his advanced age, he contributed to the development and promotion of industry in the city by serving as a caretaker and consultant in the industry, and by providing training and guidance to younger generations. In 1955 (Showa 30), Kanazawa was selected as a recipient of the first Morioka City Industrial Promotion Award along with Kaizo Shibauchi and others at the age of 74. This is a product made by Senji Kanazawa, a traditional craftsman, certified as Nanbu Tekki No. 2. The spout bears the Shushu signature (Kanazawa Senji's signature has two types: Kakusai and Shushu). Made in the Showa period, unused, long-term storage item, a first-class item with a bookmark. The condition of the product inside and out is as new, so there are no problems (see images). It is a well-shaped Nanbu style, with carefully carved Arare patterns, and the good "moyashi" (handle craftsman's taste, images 8-9) on the handle, making it an elegant piece.
