★Product Information★ 【Description】 This is a vintage signal trumpet, also known as a bugle, used in the Japanese military. Unlike trumpets used for musical performance, this one was designed for transmitting sound signals for purposes such as reveille, lights out, commands, orders, and alarms. Therefore, it does not have pistons to change the pitch. The scale consists of seven notes: Do, Sol, Do, Mi, Sol, Si, Do, played by changing the shape of the mouth and the way the breath is blown. There are "two-turn" and "three-turn" types depending on how the tube is coiled; this one is a two-turn. The two-turn type has a shorter tube, so it produces a higher pitch than the three-turn type. I have confirmed that it can produce sound, although it requires some practice. (The mouthpiece has been disinfected, so please rest assured.) As a side note, the Maritime Self-Defense Force is the only one that still uses a two-turn bugle, so I speculate that this one may have been used by the former Imperial Japanese Navy.
