Pure silk Width: Approximately 31cm Length: Approximately 440cm This is an antique fukuro obi with a slightly muted young green and ochre gradient, featuring a depiction of a court lady's hat (ichimegasa?) with plovers, maple leaves, and chrysanthemum flowers rendered in dye and embroidery. Japanese embroidery and gold thread embroidery are carefully applied to the otaiko (back of the obi) and maebi (front of the obi). The embroidery of the white, irregular chrysanthemum petals is particularly exquisite, making you want to gaze at it. It appears to have been remade from a maru obi (round obi), and has a pattern stop like a rokkotsu fukuro obi (six-panel fukuro obi). It has ample length, so it seems easy to tie for an antique piece. Purchased from an antique kimono shop in Tokyo. As it is an antique, there are minor stains and loose embroidery threads, but it is in a beautiful condition for an antique obi, and it seems it would still be useful for those who love antique kimonos.
