This is a sleeveless "chanchanko" (a type of padded vest) that my mother had someone make for her decades ago. It's not thick because it doesn't have any padding, and it's lighter than it looks. The armholes are also wide, making it easy to wear. I believe the outer material is wool, but I apologize if I'm mistaken... I'm also not very knowledgeable about fabrics... Please check the back side in the photos as well. It has large pockets on both sides, which is convenient. Judging from the pattern, it's relatively large, so I wondered if my mother might have made it for her husband. I think it could be worn by a man who isn't very large. I'm organizing my Japanese chest of drawers, and more "hanten"-style (a type of short coat) items are coming out. It's new and unused, but for some reason, this item has a stain (?). It's not from wear, as it hasn't been worn. Please understand that there may be stains other than those in the photos. There are also wrinkles throughout. It's a handmade, one-of-a-kind item with a careful finish. Thank you.
