Regarding my repairs: If a crack is stopped only with a drilled hole, the cut surfaces of the crack will make contact, causing a buzzing noise, and the sustain and tone will be lost. Since it won't sound right, you'll end up hitting it hard and eventually ruining it quickly. For practical use, cutting is often the best result. For processing, I use a scope to remove even the roots of cracks that cannot be seen with the naked eye, to prevent recurrence. The processed surface is smoothly shaped and polished.
