I believe that Argerich's appreciation for Pogorelich's sensitive and individualistic performance was greatly influenced by Aliza Kezeradze, the Georgian pianist from whom he received lessons from the age of 18. The influence from Kezeradze was not limited to music; Pogorelich passionately proposed to her in the year of the Chopin Competition and married her, who was 21 years his senior. He further deepened his bold interpretations and left behind dynamic and large-scale masterpieces in Chopin and Tchaikovsky. In the 1990s, while maintaining his polished, transparently beautiful tone, he began to perform in a somewhat introspective manner, as if pausing and allowing his sound to permeate the space. Similar to his performances of Scarlatti and Mozart, this Haydn is also an extremely individualistic performance with a slow tempo (especially in the slow movements), completely different from ordinary Haydn, but it is a performance that makes you want to calm your mind and listen. Anyone who listens to this CD is sure to think so, but the piano here has a crystal-clear sound that is supremely beautiful. This transparency is remarkable. Each individual note of the piano is round and shining like a pearl. You will never be able to hear Haydn with such a refined tone anywhere else. Furthermore, Pogorelich plays the ornaments, which are essential to classical music, with unparalleled uniformity, brilliance, and lightness. When such fast passages are played so uniformly, you get the illusion that they are being played by a machine. It's not like a classical piece at all.
