One-Character Calligraphy Shogi pieces and a piece box (unsigned). The piece box is a Komatatsu-go Tokusen, and it's probably from Tendo. The pieces are nata-giri (chisel-cut) and are likely from the Showa 40s or 50s (1965-1975). With one-character calligraphy, the style of Kosho is usually common, but I think this is a work from a time when it wasn't so widespread. The reverse side calligraphy of the pawn, lance, and knight uses the Tendo Nakabori style, and it's a very original work. The font of all the characters is very stylish and cool, especially the Bishop, Knight, Dragon, Silver, Knight, Lance, and Pawn, which are the best. Although it is an unsigned work, it has a unique feel. The pieces will be sent in the piece box. (The flat box is not included.) The nata-giri piece wood has some scratches from the piece wood construction (see photo 15). I did some chamfering, but it's just my own style. I removed the dirt with fine sandpaper, so the surface is smooth and feels great to the touch. The calligraphy is easy to see, and these are pieces that you'll want to play with again and again. A masterpiece that you won't get tired of.
