When I bought this at an antique market a few years ago, I was told that it was made when this blue color was introduced to Japan from Germany during the Meiji era (1868-1912). Because it was a color that came from Germany, this deep blue is called "Berlin Blue." (It is said to be a color discovered in Germany in the early 1700s.) This deep blue color is vivid and lovely. There are some chips in the glaze, but no noticeable cracks or chips. There are dents and uneven coloring from the manufacturing process. When I purchased it, I washed it with bleach and boiled it for disinfection, but I have not used it since and it has been kept on a shelf. I think it can be used as a vase or a sweet plate. (The leaves in photos 9 and 10 are artificial flowers. I placed them as a sample.)
