"Haira Daisho" is one of the Twelve Heavenly Generals, a guardian deity of Yakushi Nyorai (the Medicine Buddha). It is associated with the zodiac sign of the Dragon, and sculptures depicting the head of a dragon exist. "Shinsho-zo" (General Statues) refers to statues of the "Twelve Heavenly Generals," the twelve armed guardian deities who primarily serve Yakushi Nyorai. They are depicted with the animals of the twelve zodiac signs on their heads, in the form of valiant military commanders. In Japanese Buddhist sculpture, those from the Kamakura period (late 12th century), characterized by dynamic and realistic expressions, are famous, with works by Unkei being representative.
