There is some plating wear on the shank, but otherwise, it is in quite beautiful condition for its age. This is a legendary vintage Giardinelli mouthpiece, and the V-cup in particular is known for its unique dark tone, a tone that can only be produced with this mouthpiece. The old stamp models are especially popular for their attractive tone, which differs from the recent reproductions. The rim has an inner diameter of about a Bach 3C to 1-1/2C, slightly flatter and semi-wide than Bach, making it very easy to use, and a popular size. The depth is a medium depth V-cup, feeling like somewhere between a Bach C and B cup, but because it's a V-cup, it produces a dark tone when played softly and a unique, constricted tone when played strongly. It is said that the Giardinelli mouthpieces used by Miles Davis were close to the 7VM and 7VS. Giardinelli's 7 rims are often around a Bach 7C to 5C, but this 6VM has a slightly larger inner diameter. I think the sound character is quite similar. It has good response and moderate resistance, so it has particularly excellent expressive power in delicate expressions in small ensembles. The unique, thick tone when played softly, as if whispering, is truly hard bop, and I find it particularly appealing. Conversely, in loud expressions, the resistance is strong, and I found it a bit harsh. I think it will be especially effective in jazz combos and acoustic ensembles. I have tried many models, including old stamp models, reproductions, and new stamp models, but the sound of the vintage Giardinelli with the old stamp is truly wonderful.
