This is an exquisite piece, the "Kiku-kaoru" natsume, by Kyoto lacquer artist Okamoto Urushisen-do, which has been carefully preserved for many years. It is in good condition with no noticeable damage other than extremely minor scuffs. The inside of the lid bears the kao (signature) of Soho Yawatani, the head of the Omotesenke school, in red lacquer.
