Jinnou was originally a legendary figure from ancient China. He is said to have roamed the mountains and fields, striking and breaking plants with a red whip, collecting them, and tasting them himself to investigate their effects, discovering medicinal herbs one after another. Takaoka Copperware began in 1611 when Toshinaga Maeda, the second lord of the Kaga domain, invited casters and established a foundry as an industrial policy to promote the prosperity of the castle town during the construction of Takaoka Castle. It developed by producing Kara-kane castings, mainly with carving, such as vases and Buddhist altar fittings, and gained worldwide fame at the Paris World Exposition in the Meiji period.
