This is a firm, vegetable-tanned cowhide from a domestic tannery. It's dyed with dyes that don't use any pigments, giving it a transparent look. The raw hide is steer (bull over 2 years old), resulting in a dense leather with tightly packed fibers. It polishes beautifully along the edges. The back of the leather has been treated by the tannery, so it's very clean and doesn't need to be processed by you. Sizes range from slightly less than A4 to about 1ds, with a thickness of 3mm and a black color. Unlike synthetic leather, chrome-tanned leather, and pigment-dyed leather, this leather is prone to showing features like tiger marks (wrinkles), blood vessels, honeycomb structure, and pre-existing scars on the grain side.
