It is a traditional craft of porcelain with colored paintings, and its origins are said to be the opening of a kiln in Kutani (present-day Kutani-machi, Yamanaka Onsen, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture) in the early Edo period. 【Features】 ・Vivid colors and bold and elegant patterns. One of the features is the pictorial and realistic depiction of motifs in the center. ・[Overglaze painting technique] A technique in which patterns are drawn with overglaze paint on the glaze of fired porcelain and then fired again. It is also used in Arita ware, but Kutani ware uses black lines called "gosu" (呉須) for outlining (bone drawing) and a coloring method called "Kutani Gosai" (九谷五彩), which involves thickly applying five colors of Japanese paint: red, yellow, green, purple, and indigo blue.
