[What is a Kimekomi Ningyo...] Grooves are carved into a prototype made of paulownia sawdust (toso), and the edges of the fabric are pushed into those grooves with a tool like an awl, to make it look like they are wearing clothing. Around 1740, a craftsman who made offering boxes for Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto created kimekomi dolls, and it is a traditional doll with a history of nearly 300 years.
