The Meters were formed in New Orleans in '66 by Art Neville and were active as an instrumental funk group. They also backed up many records produced by the veteran Allen Toussaint. They can be said to be the leading figures in creating the sound of New Orleans R&B produced from the 60s to the 70s. This work is the third album released in 1970. It includes the hits "Chicken Strut" (R&B #11 / Pop #50) and "Hand Clapping Song" (R&B #26 / Pop #89). They also took on vocals, covering "Wichita Lineman" written by Jim Webb and made a hit by Glen Campbell, and Lee Dorsey's masterpiece "Ride Your Pony," a fellow New Orleans artist, which was well-received.
