This is a Tsujigahana obi from Itchiku Kobo, created in collaboration with the late Itchiku Kubota, the first generation, and inheriting his techniques, sensibilities, and spirit. The background features a hazy gradation with subtle shades, and the Tsujigahana and Itchiku Star patterns are applied using the Katchin dyeing technique. The Itchiku Star is a soft, round pattern like a ball of light, accenting the spaces between the other patterns. It is a distinctive pattern representing the stars that the first generation found hope in during his long and harsh Siberian internment. The artist's signature is placed on the hand section, visible when worn. The shimmering silver thread textured fabric also depicts flowers, the characters for Itchiku, and Tsujigahana.
