It works normally. I don't think there is any odor attached to the containers, but if you are concerned, please purchase a new one. It looks clean in the pictures, but upon close inspection, there are stains and discoloration of the metal. As this is used kitchen equipment, we are not accepting returns or exchanges for any issues other than the food warming function (such as appearance or dirt).
