He apprenticed under the Living National Treasure, Bunkichi Uchida (the first Unbun). In 1983, he received the Excellence Award at the Unshu Soroban Exhibition. In 1987, he received the Traditional Industry Association Chairman's Award at the National Traditional Crafts Exhibition. The quality of his work is evident, as the price of his pieces has nearly doubled compared to when I purchased them, following the work of Fumio Uchida, who is now a leading Unshu soroban maker. This is a 27-digit soroban made of solid ebony, passed down from my parents. His works are sold in a certain store for over 130,000 yen. My children will not be taking over, so I will sell it to those who are interested at a low price.
